Pension for musicians – what does the expert think?

Pension fund, coordination deduction and part-time

Many musicians – especially freelancers – are expected to take the issue of pension into their own hands. In particular, the coordination deduction, part-time employment with several employers and the registration of self-employment are the core of the topic.
Hans Brupbacher, President of the Board of Trustees of the Pension Fund Music and Education, tackles the topic for us:

Attractive pension plan

The Pension Fund Music and Education offers clear advantages for orchestral musicians, music teachers or other part time employed musicians.Employers such as music schools or other educational institutions can use a BV pension plan to meet BVG obligations to their employees in a comprehensive, needs-based, administratively simple and inexpensive manner. In addition to their salaries from permanent employment, many music teachers earn a substantial income from a number of small salaried jobs such as orchestral musician, organist, choirmaster or self-employment.

Tailor-made offer for multiple and part-time employees

We insure all income from the first franc. We do not have an entry threshold or a coordination deduction. With the ME (for multiple employees) and SE (for self-employed and freelancers) pension plans, all parts of the earned income can therefore be included in the occupational pension plan and contribute to the improvement of future pension benefits. However, it should be noted that according to the BVG, employers are only obliged to provide compulsory insurance for their employees from an income of CHF 21,150.00. However, if this income limit is reached from two or three jobs together, all employers must contribute proportionately to the pension plan in accordance with paragraph 46 BVG.For a pension insurance in the ME Plan or SE Plan, all persons can register individually with the PK Music and Education.

Almost 40 years ago, the PK Music and Education recognized this special situation of multiple and part-time employees and self-employed persons and tailored and continually adapted the pension offer to these persons.
